The Springs Golf Club is a proprietary golf club situated within 133 acres of parkland near Wallingford, Oxfordshire. With its mature trees, lakes, sleeper-edged bunkers and areas of wetland, the 18-hole parkland course - designed by former Ryder Cup Captain Brian Huggett - provides an enjoyable challenge for all levels of golfer. The club boasts many facilities including a Tudor-style clubhouse, a pro shop and PGA professional golf tuition.
When club secretary and manager Matt Ackerman didn’t want to have to contend with the continual problem of replacing lost and missing lockers keys from the changing rooms, he began to look for a less time-consuming solution.
“We were going to introduce a key deposit charge to prevent the keys from being taken. But as well as being inconvenient for our members it would still require the keys to be kept somewhere and managed by the staff. We pride ourselves at The Springs on service, and knew instantly that this would not work,” explained Mr Ackerman. “So we decided to replace the existing locks with a keyless alternative.”
KitLock KL1000 is an electronic lock designed specifically for securing changing room lockers. Fitted in place of a standard cam lock, it provides simple keypad access without the hassle of keys, coins or tokens. Instead, access is gained by entering a four-digit code on the keypad. Members simply enter a user code, then ‘lock and go’; free to enjoy the golf course without having to carry a key around with them.
“We needed to ensure that the new locks were easy for our members to use, so being able to ‘test drive’ one was essential,” said Mr. Ackerman. “The feedback for the KitLock KL1000 digital lock was very positive. Members really liked the fact that when a locker is in use, the LED light flashes red so it’s easy to see at a glance which lockers are vacant. We’ve now replaced all of the locks in the changing rooms and are very pleased with the results. They look very smart and professional, and we now spend far less time sorting out issues with lockers keys.”
KitLock digital keypad locks are very easy to fit, taking just a few minutes to remove the existing cam lock from the door and make an additional top fixing. Once in place a KitLock KL1000 can perform up to 15,000 openings on just two AAA batteries.
