Caravan & Park Operator: Holiday parks embrace contact-free access

HOLIDAY PARKS EMBRACE CONTACT-FREE ACCESS TO HELP THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

When it comes to the fight against COVID-19, we're all in this together. To limit the spread of the virus, we all need to do what we can to minimise social contact.

For caravan and holiday park managers this means reducing physical interaction with guests. For owners of short-term holiday lets, the need to reduce contact with guests is even more urgent, as to stay open they are required to conform with the government's new hospitality guidelines.

Open for business

Providing contactless access is an immediate concern for short-term lets. Government guidelines for holiday rentals stipulate that owners must minimise contact with guests - and providing keyless access to accommodation and communal areas is a good place to start. Mechanical or electronic keyless locks would, of course, remove the need to hand over keys, but a smart access solution brings further benefits, too.

Accommodating smart locks

When Lifestyle Serviced Apartments (LSA), wanted to provide remote access to its serviced apartments in Southend-on-Sea, it fitted Codelocks Smart Locks on each of the apartment doors. When a customer makes a booking, they are remotely issued a time sensitive code for the relevant apartment. The code can be set for any desired period of time and is disposable, expiring once the customer checks out of the property.

A smart access control system makes it much easier for receptionists and staff to manage bookings in accordance with the new guidelines. As well as removing the need to physically meet and greet guests, this technology also reduces the time spent on the check in procedure, allowing staff to focus on other tasks - including more regular cleaning.

Making it feel like home

But coded locks and smart access solutions can only go so far in helping to reduce physical contact. An optional finish can now be applied to Codelocks locks offering an extra layer of protection. The clear coating can reduce bacterial growth by over 99.99% and has been shown to be effective in combating coronavirus from surfaces.

Use of all the facilitates

Other measures suggested by the government include limiting the number of guests using holiday park changing rooms, gyms and spas, as well as using a booking system to monitor and manage numbers.

A simple solution to this is to equip lockers with coded locks. This enables multiple users to access the same locker securely, without the need for a key. There are many options available. A simple locker lock can be accessed by a guest using a personal code and then erased after use ready for the next guest. More sophisticated electronic locker locks provide smart time-sensitive code generation allowing access within a designated timeslot. Generated codes can be sent by email or SMS.

With either option, coded locks can cut down on the number of lockers needed to meet demand. Plus, as each user has their own code, rather than a copy of a key, which is at risk of being misplaced. Providing coded access to lockers also avoids facilities managers and park caretakers needing to spend budget and time repairing locks - keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.

Out-smarting COVID- 19 and delivering a better service for guests. If we’re going to succeed in the fight against Coronavirus, we’ll all need to play our part. For owners of caravans, holiday rentals and parks, providing contactless access can help to meet government guidelines but for all owners, providing keyless access to rental properties is a smart move. As well as helping to minimise unnecessary physical contact between all parties, contactless access solutions reduce time spent on meeting and greeting guests and offer a more flexible check-in and check-out making destinations more attractive to guests.
